SYMC earnings on 7/29 -7.5% in AH, another -5.0% next trading day

Another good move this week on earnings from Symantec SYMC. Earnings on 7/29, -7.5% in after hrs following earnings. Next traidng day an additional -5.0% , has now widen 8 of 8 earnings after hours reaction into next trading day. Here's the history.

On May 6, 2009, SYMC slumped 4.5% in after-hours trade following better-than-expected earnings, missed revenue results, and mixed guidance. The stock added to its downside in the May 7 regular session, ending down 14.8%.

On Jan. 28, 2009, the stock gained 3.5% after beating with Q3 results and guiding in line for Q4. Shares were up 5.6% the next day.

On Oct. 29, 2008, the stock fell 6.8% during evening trading after SYMC beat with earnings but was shy with sales. The loss swelled to 17.6% the next day.

On July 30, 2008, the stock gained 5% during extended-hours trading after SYMC beat with Q1, guides in line to above Street for Q2. The stock gained a more robust 7% the next day.

On April 30, 2008, the stock gained 4.3% during evening trading after beating with Q4 results and guiding above the Street for Q1. The gain swelled to 12.3% the next day.

On Jan. 23, 2008, SYMC jumped 9.1% in evening action after topping Q3 estimates and guiding higher. It firmed further north the next day, advancing 10.9% by the closing bell on Jan. 24.

On Oct, 24, 2007, the stock dropped 11.9% after SYMC reported ahead with Q2 results but guides for Q3 below. The stock fell 12% the next day.

On July 25, 2007, AKAM plunged 12% in night trade despite beating Q2 sales estimates and meeting on EPS. The company guided Q3 earnings to be in line to below Street views. Shares fell further the following day to end the regular session down 18.9%.

On April 30, 2008, AKAM slipped 0.06% in the evening hours after the company missed with revenue though beat with EPS by two cents. The loss was a deeper 3.9% the next day.

On Feb. 6, 2008, shares advanced 1.9% during evening trading after AKAM beat Q4 expectations. The gain improved to 9% the next day.
3:20 PM, Jul 30, 2009 -- Gen-Probe (GPRO) is due with its Q2 results after the bell tonight, and analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expect the company to report a profit of $0.43 per share on revenue of $123 million.

GPRO generally sees solid next-day volatility following after-hours earnings events. The stock has recorded wider next-day percentage closing levels following 15 of its last 21 evening-session quarterly reports. In the near term, the stock has widened in the last five consecutive quarters, though one recent example was a case of flat evening trade followed by a next-day decline.
